On April 30, 2017, 9 women storytellers took the stage at Jammin’ Java, in Vienna, VA, to share their true, personal stories of obstacles and empowerment. Better Said Than Done raised $1250 for the National Network to End Domestic Violence during the storytelling show and fundraiser. But the night meant so much more than that.
In Roar: True Tales of Women Warriors, the audience shared an experience that will not soon be forgotten. Each of our 9 storytellers told a story of power, and of womanhood, that roared through the audience and out into the world. The stories told were the beginning of a movement. These women warriors are simply leading the roar.
Mary Supley Foxworth took charge of the stage, hosting the storytelling show.
Stacy Crickmer kicked off the storytelling night with her tale of working as a park ranger at the White House.
Sandra Hull shared a story about what Mother’s Day represents to her.
Felicia Reed spoke of a lifetime of surviving what no one should have to endure.
Kathy Stershic talked about a charming Brit who swept her off her feet and all the way to London.
Allison Stevens told a story of motherhood and her quest for a feminist child.
Jessica Robinson shared a story of a deception that lay buried for years.
Sharon Few’s story was about a very complicated family dynamic.
Brandy Walker shared how fiercely she fought for the safety of her child.
Anne B. Thomas told a tale of a time, not that long ago, when sexual harassment in the workplace was a laughing matter, to some.
The storytellers of Roar deserved their standing ovation. We are women. The audience heard us roar. It has begun.
