Our October storytelling show was another great night of storytelling. The theme of the night was “Masquerade” and there were lots of great, true stories disguised as entertainment.
Jessica Piscitelli Robinson, Founder of Better Said Than Done, hosted the event and started the night off with a short story of finding a really cool Halloween costume for a super cool party. Kathy Baird started out the lineup of great storytellers with her tale of how she first found Burning Man.

Storytelling Times Two
At a recent storytelling show, two Better Said Than Done storytellers told the same story. Well, not exactly. It was not quite a “Rashomon” style of storytelling, as it wasn’t two views of the same story but, rather, it was more of a “puzzle pieces” style of storytelling. Jessica Robinson told part of the story and David Supley Foxworth told a different part of the story.

Our storytelling shows always feature true and personal stories. In this case, we got to see two storytellers expand one story in two directions. The theme of the night was “Fall for It, stories about being duped,” and it’s fun to see how the two storytellers each interpreted that theme differently.

Advanced Storytelling Workshop
Better Said Than Done is now offering an advanced storytelling workshop. The workshop is a four week course in writing, storytelling and performing.
If you have already taken a storytelling workshop with us, or another storytelling organization, and are looking to get a little deeper with your storytelling, this is the right workshop for you. Additionally, if you’d like to write a longer or more complicated story than what you would typically achieve in an eight minute piece, this is a great workshop to take.

Recap of Reston Storytelling Show
It was a great night for storytelling and a successful night for the Reston Nature House when Better Said Than Done hosted a storytelling fundraiser, with proceeds benefiting the Friends of Reston. The theme of the night was “Believe It or Not” and there were definitely some hard to believe true stories.
Jessica Piscitelli Robinson, president of the Friends of Reston Board and Founder of Better Said Than Done, hosted the event and started the night off with a story of strange meetings.
Joe Ganci, a newcomer to storytelling, took us to the Twilight Zone with his weird tales.

Recap of Storytelling at The Fall for the Book Festival
Better Said Than Done storytellers were excited to have two events at this year’s Fall for the Book Festival at George Mason University – a storytelling panel and a storytelling show. We were happy to be included and glad to see storytelling find a place in the festival.
Our panel discussion, “Living to Tell About It – the Art of Storytelling,” was a lot of fun, for the audience as well as the panelists. Moderator Shawn Westfall, a storyteller himself, did a great job asking all the hard hitting questions.
Panelists ranged from a relative newcomer to storytelling, David Supley Foxworth, to a storyteller of 20 plus years, Ellouise Schoettler. Anna Marie Trester and Jessica Piscitelli Robinson each have a lot of storytelling experience, but not quite so much as Ellouise.
We had great audience attendance and they asked some hard hitting questions themselves. It was wonderful to meet some people new to storytelling, and to have some of the authors and playwrights from the festival in attendance.

Fall For the Book Storytelling Panel
Better Said Than Done brought storytelling to Northern Virginia in 2011, but Better Said Than Done storytellers have been sharing true and personal stories on stages around the country for a long time.
Our storytellers have been invited to participate in a panel discussion on storytelling for the “Fall for the Book Festival” at George Mason University. THis is a free event. The festival is a fantastic opportunity for lovers of books or the craft of writing. The panel is a great place to learn all about storytelling from some of the most amazing storytellers around.
