Two-Part Contest and 5 Year Anniversary Show

Since 2011, Better Said Than Done has brought the art of storytelling to Northern Virginia, with almost 100 performers taking to the stage to entertain audiences with their true, personal stories. Now, we are holding a two-part competition to mark our 5th anniversary. Part One is an online competition (more details below) which will determine who goes on to perform and compete in Part Two, the anniversary show, “Best in Show”. “Best in Show” will be performed at Jammin’ Java, at 6:30 PM, on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Doors open at 5:00 PM. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased in advance at jamminjava.com or at the door. Full bar and dinner menus are available and seating is limited to first come, first served. (The stories are intended for an adult audience.)

Part One
More than 20 storytellers submitted videos (one per storyteller) of their top Better Said Than Done story performances. Now it’s up to you to view the videos and vote for your favorite story at www.bettersaidthandone.com/contest [link is to view videos and vote]. Voting is open from March 15, 2016 through April 15, 2016. The 10 storytellers receiving the most votes will be announced on April 18, 2016, and they will advance to Part Two of Better Said Than Done’s 5th anniversary competition.

Part Two
The finalists in our 5th anniversary competition, as chosen by you in Part One, will perform in “Best in Show” on May 28, 2016, at Jammin’ Java in Vienna. The storytellers will be telling an original, never-before-told story at this show, which is also a contest. Each audience member will cast his or her vote for their favorite story of the night to elect the winner of “Best in Show.”.

“I’m so excited to be celebrating our five-year anniversary. In May, 2011, when I pulled together the first Better Said Than Done show, my thought process was, ‘I love storytelling and think others will, too.’ Five years later, I’m glad I was right,” explains Jessica Robinson, founder of Better Said Than Done.

Wasn’t Me in Those Photos!

2016 started with a great storytelling show at The Auld Shebeen in Fairfax, VA. Better Said Than Done storytellers told tales about mistaken identity and misdirection in “Wasn’t Me,” our first storytelling show of the year.

The storytellers themselves may have been blurry on who or what it actually was, but these beautiful photos by Aimee Custis Photography are sharp and sparkling, like Aimee herself.
